Rein orchid, Piperia transversa, in bloom at Olompali
Come hike the Olompali Miwok Trail with Botanist and Entomologist Clint Kellner and Certified California Naturalist Madeline Kellner to look for the small delicate flowers of the summer-blooming rein orchid, Piperia transversa. We will see the rare Napa false indigo shrub, coyote mint, California fescue grasslands, and blue oaks. We will also gain a deeper appreciation for our local ecology and have a lot of fun along the way! This event is a partnership of Friends of Olompali and the Marin Chapter of the California Native Plant Society.
The loop hike is about 3 miles round trip, on gravel and rough dirt trails, with a slope of up to 20 degrees in portions. Wear layered clothing, study walking shoes, and bring snacks, sunscreen and plenty of water.
